The lucky handsets mentioned include the Omnia, Saga and Touch Pro, according to an e-mail passed along to WMExperts... The solution is expected via firmware updates to the devices, so stay tuned. "

Palm gets in on the app store action.
"No surprise. Google did it, RIM announced they were doing it so it's not a shock that Palm's gotten into the software app store business. There's choices for both Windows Mobile and Palm OS devices and this is a good move, albeit one that's late in coming."

Is Verizon Wireless nailing the coffin shut on WiMAX?
Kevin C. Tofel writes: "I'd love to see WiMAX succeed. It offers unique and affordable day-passes and monthly service charges without commitments. And frankly, the folks I've spoken with at Clearwire are darn nice people. They've got a solid vision to offer a valuable service but unfortunately, I think they're running out of time. If we don't see some major WiMAX deployment completed within the first six months of 2009, my fear is that LTE will build up steam and roll right over WiMAX."

Blackberry Storm OTA upgrade finally appears.
James Kendrick writes: "I started the upgrade download and the phone told me it was 14 MB in size and that I did not have enough free RAM to install it. This evaluation phone came to me with a ton of extra software installed so I went through it and deleted a few of the programs and freed up enough memory. I restarted the upgrade and it went smoothly from that point on. It took about 30 minutes and then it was all updated. During the process the upgrade backed up all my personal data to the media card and then restored it after the upgrade completed. This was all automatic and the Windows Mobile folks should take notice that this is the way it should be."

Smart Support for Smartphones.
David Ginsberg, vice president of marketing for InnoPath, writes: "At four times the lifetime costs of more basic featurephones, a single half-hour support call for broken email or browser settings can eliminate any profit they hoped to gain from the subscriber... MDM can save operators billions of dollars annually in reduced call expenses by shaving just a few minutes off off every call. They can immediately tell if a phone needs an update, pushing it out, and either addressing known issues or enabling the user to benefit from new applications. The positive impact on first-time problem resolution and customer satisfaction goes without saying."
