Google, Carriers 'Commit' to Android Updates.

"At the Google I/O conference today, Google, all the national U.S. wireless carriers, and several hardware manufacturers announced that they are forming an initiative to guarantee Android software updates to phones. But the devil's in the details, and nobody seems to have the details yet.

The new group includes the four U.S. national carriers [Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T], Google, Samsung, LG, HTC, and Motorola, which covers most of the Android phones sold in the USA. Sony Ericsson and Vodafone are also members. The group is committing that 'new devices from participating partners will receive the latest Android platform upgrades for 18 months after the device is first released, as long as the hardware allows,' according to the official Google blog."
