GD Acquires SmartTrust.

SmartTrust Expands Terminal Capabilities Repository Program to Support Over 4,100 Wireless Devices.

"SmartTrust... today announced the continued expansion of its SmartTrust Terminal Capabilities Repository (TCR) update program which now includes access to information about over 4,100 unique wireless devices from 118 phone manufacturers. SmartTrust TCR, part of the company's device management portfolio, allows service providers to identify wireless phones used on their specific networks in an effort to ensure subscribers have a consistent user experience...

With SmartTrust TCR, service providers gain the ability to identify a phone by vendor and model name, whether the phone can be activated and configured over-the-air, how a particular phone is configured through a particular standard, and what properties such as data and e-mail settings may be configured. In addition to these terminal provisioning capabilities, SmartTrust collects information of interest to application developers with data about APIs supported by a particular handset, the physical properties of a device including whether it has a camera or MP3 player, and details regarding a phone's screen size and type. A wealth of general device support information is also available from SmartTrust including details on the support of wireless standards and the spectrum those phones operate within as well as particulars about a phone's operating system...

The TCR program is a subscription-based service which provides 10 regularly scheduled updates per year with information on an average of over 100 devices per release."

Unicel to launch in Sao Paulo [as Aeiou, with support from SmartTrust].

"Brazil’s newest mobile operator Unicel plans to launch commercial services in Sao Paulo metropolitan area on 7 September under the brand name Aeiou...

Unicel has selected SmartTrust, a SIM and mobile device management (MDM) solution, to support its launch. SmartTrust will deploy its comprehensive portfolio of over-the-air technologies including SmartProvisioning, SmartAct and SmartaLaCarte. With the SmartTrust product suite, Aeiou will be able to automatically configure devices coming onto its network and successfully introduce the subscriber to its VAS offerings within the critical first hour, it said. Unicel faces a tough challenge to establish itself though. The Sao Paulo metropolitan market is already served by the likes of Vivo, Claro and TIM Brasil, while Oi (Telemar) has also indicated it will launch services there in October."

Synchronica licenses to SmartTrust.

"Synchronica, an international provider of mobile synchronization and device management solutions, today announces that it has licensed a core component of its Mobile Manager Suite to SmartTrust AB ('SmartTrust'), a leader in Mobile Device Management solutions, for a fee of EUR 800,000. Synchronica will further support SmartTrust with dedicated engineering resource providing additional revenues of up to EUR 200,000 per year."

Easy handset settings for Swedish operator.

"Telenor Sweden has gone live with a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution from SmartTrust that will allow it to better manage subscriber access to data services such as MMS, Email, WAP and Push-to-Talk (PTT)... Telenor Sweden (Mobile) subscribers can request a settings download via the operator's customer care centre or through a self-care web portal."

SmartTrust: Sending the right signals.

"SmartTrust's mobile device management promises to enhance the operator, subscriber relationship... According to Strategy Analytics nearly five million handsets were subject to a firmware recall last year at a cost of $145 per unit. At present, 7 per cent of handsets have a problem that requires customer care interaction. By 2010, MDM technologies will provide operators with a combined annual saving in customer-care costs of nearly $1.5 billion."

McAfee, Inc. and SmartTrust to develop integrated mobile virus management solution.

"[McAfee] today announced that it has formed a partnership with mobile device management company SmartTrust to develop a solution that will allow mobile operators to deliver integrated mobile virus protection to subscribers... the combined solution will enable new virus and malware updates to be delivered to subscribers remotely, 24/7... SmartManage allows operators to automatically detect vulnerable handsets on the network and, where necessary, deliver virus protection over-the-air for immediate protection. To ensure continuous defense, the SmartTrust platform also uses a sophisticated business rules engine to allow subscribers' existing anti-virus subscriptions."

F-Secure, SmartTrust partner on mobile security.

"F-Secure's antivirus software will be incorporated into SmartManage Protect, a mobile security platform from SmartTrust that allows mobile operators to manage antivirus software on subscriber handsets over the air. If mobile operators detect a vulnerability, antivirus software from F-Secure can be delivered, according to the companies."
